What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal initiative designed to make dental care more accessible and affordable for eligible Canadian residents. The CDCP helps cover the cost of various dental services, ensuring that essential oral health care is within reach for those who need it most.

Who is Eligible?

To qualify for the CDCP, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. No Access to Dental Insurance: You must not have any other dental insurance coverage.
  2. Filed Tax Returns: You and your spouse/common-law partner (if applicable) must have filed your tax returns in Canada for the previous year.
  3. Adjusted Family Net Income: Your adjusted family net income must be less than $90,000.
  4. Canadian Resident: You must be a Canadian resident for tax purposes.

Eligible groups include:

  • Seniors aged 65 and over
  • Children under the age of 18
  • Adults with a valid federal Disability Tax Credit certificate for 2023

How to Apply

The application process for the CDCP is straightforward and can be completed online. Here’s how you can apply:

Services Covered by CDCP

The CDCP covers a wide range of dental services, including:

  • Major Services: Crowns, bridges, and dentures.
  • Anesthesia or Sedation Services: Necessary for complex procedures.
  • Orthodontic Services: For eligible individuals, typically requiring pre-approval.
Note: Some services may require preauthorization, and coverage levels can vary based on your adjusted family net income.

Co-Payments and Additional Charges

Depending on your adjusted family net income, you may have a co-payment:

  • Income below $70,000: 100% of eligible service costs covered.
  • Income between $70,000 and $79,999: 60% of eligible service costs covered.
  • Income between $80,000 and $89,999: 40% of eligible service costs covered.
You may also face additional charges if the service costs exceed CDCP reimbursement rates or if you opt for services not covered by the plan.

At Crystalline Dental Clinic, we work closely with oral health providers to ensure seamless service under the CDCP. Our providers are registered with Sun Life, the administrator of the CDCP, to facilitate direct billing and minimize out-of-pocket expenses for our patients.
